Wafels & wolkenkrabbers tells the story of the author, Luc Standaert, who wanders through New York, exploring the city and continually marveling at its unique character and its inhabitants. With a special focus on the city’s music and film scene, the book has become a unique travel guide that takes you beyond the classic 'must-sees'. It is both a book to read and to look at, featuring images and artworks inspired by New York, created by the author himself.

The chapters of the book take you on a walk through the different boroughs of New York. The many images visually guide you through the city, which is why the text called for a sleek, clean layout. This way the focus remains on what there is to see. The challenge was to create a sense of calm in the typography, while still incorporating the many references to songs and movies that inspired the author throughout his career.
